gor Abundance of media

Slovenia is a democratic state in which the freedom of expression, speech and public appearance, of the press and of other media and of forms of expression are guaranteed by the Constitution.
Slovenia has around 900 different media entities, including 750 printed publications with a total circulation of 5.79 million. Roughly a half of Slovene households are connected to cable television. On the basis of the number of personal computers and Internet connections, Slovenia is one of the most developed states in Central and Eastern Europe.
The law on the media promulgated in 1994 guarantees state support for the development of non-commercial public media, which are essential for the preservation of the identity of the Slovene nation, as well as media for the use of the Italian and Hungarian minorities, and for those with impaired vision and hearing.

In Slovenia, 5 daily newspapers are published, with a total circulation of 356,000; 40 weeklies and regional newspapers with a circulation of 380,000; 32 fortnightly publications with a circulation of 612,000; 41 occasional publications on current affairs, the economy and politics with a total circulation of 612,000; 178 academic and professional journals; 33 cultural reviews, mainly monthlies, with a total circulation of 80,000; 40 entertainment tabloids and magazines with a total circulation of 500,000; as well as 8 foreign language reviews on Slovenia. Presently, Slovenia has 3 national television channels (two RTV Slovenia channels, and RTV Koper-Capodistria for the Italian minority), as well as 49 other channels. Four commercial channels can be seen on more than a half of Slovenia's territory (TV3, POP TV, Kanal A and Gajba TV).
The development of the cable TV network around Slovenia, presently managed by 100 cable operators, stimulated the appearance of local television channels. At present, viewers can thus choose among 360 hours of television programmes a day.
