Brdo pri Kranju, 16 June (STA) - Over one thousand journalists who are covering the Saturday's U.S.-Russian summit in Slovenia, are well catered for, as foreign journalists said they are satisfied with the two press centres set up at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana and Brdo pri Kranju, where the summit is taking place. According to the Government Information Office, over 1100 journalists are reporting on the event, half of them coming from abroad.
A total of 150 personal computers with access to the World Wide Web have been made available at the main press centre at Cankarjev dom, the largest press centre in Slovenia so far. In addition, access is available to Intranet, which offers useful information to journalists. 100 telephone lines are provided for laptop computers. The press centre will be open until Sunday afternoon. The second press centre, set up near the Kokra hotel at Brdo, offers 100 places equipped with personal computes and another 100 places are fitted for work with laptops, while events can be followed live on a big screen. Journalists are satisfied with the capacity of the two press centres. All is well organised, equipped with computers, there is a lot of space, while events can be followed live through a large screen, STA was told by Suk Jin Kim, the Moscow correspondent of the South Korean television station MBC-TV, who only complained about having to pay for the use of telephone. Bill Grillespie, a journalist of the Canadian radio station CBC-SRC, is visiting Slovenia for the first time and said he was delighted with the country and its people. He will stay only until Sunday, but hopes to return some day. Moscow correspondent of the radio Free Europe, Irena Lagunija, who visited Slovenia already in 1993, said there are many changes visible compared to back then. Hervi Rouach, a journalist of the French press agency AFP, is in Slovenia for the second time. Like his five colleagues, he said he is satisfied with the capacity of the press centre. Han Xianyang, Belgrade correspondent of the Chinese Guangming Daily, said this is the fifth time she is visiting Slovenia. She is also pleased with the organisation. Since the press conference after the meeting between the U.S. and Russian Presidents is to be held in the open, organisers have prepared one thousand umbrellas to distribute in case it rains. |
