In June this year the US President George W. Bush and the Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting in Slovenia, to take place at the end of President Bush’s European tour expected to last from 12 to 16 June.
Prime Minister Dr Janez Drnovšek has expressed his great pleasure at the decision taken by Presidents Bush and Putin to hold their first summit meeting in Slovenia. Selecting Slovenia as the venue for the meeting is a reflection of the excellent relations existing between Slovenia and the US, and between Slovenia and Russia. The host of this meeting, Slovenian Prime Minister Dr Janez Drnovšek, has met President Putin twice this year: in February in St Anton, Austria, and in March in the Kremlin. He had a meeting with President Bush, then still Governor of Texas, in 1999. Slovenia attaches very great significance to this meeting and hopes it will contribute to greater stability and the consolidation of peace throughout the world. Moreover, the arrival of both presidents in Slovenia will provide an opportunity to further strengthen Slovenia’s relations with both superpowers. |
